Not even a year into the legal drinking game, I am by no means an alcohol expert but I sure do love a good cocktail when I'm out with friends or at dinner. Something a few of you requested on the survey up on the top bar was drink recipes. I enjoy getting post requests, so keep them coming! There is so much to learn about cocktails and you really have to experiment to find out what you enjoy. I prefer a good g&t but I'm always willing to try something new!
My sister and I decided to mix some new drinks last month, so we tried a Tom Collins. It's a classic gin cocktail, but when I went on a cruise earlier this month, there was a whole page on the "Collins" family. So many variations on the classic drink, I had no idea!
A little history.. it was created by John Collins, a bartender in the 19th century in London. It was originally made with Genever Gin, fresh lemon juice, and powdered sugar. Over time, it has evolved into a classic, with many variants.
Tom Collins | What you'll need
2 oz of gin (I prefer Hendricks or Tanqueray)
3/4 oz fresh lemon juice
1 oz simple syrup
**I poured a little grenadine in mine for some flavor!
1. Shake gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup until chilled, about 15 seconds
2. Strain into ice-filled highball glass
3. Garnish with a cherry and lemon wedge
Ivan Collins | Replace gin with Vodka
Joe Collins | Replace gin with Scotch
John Collins | Replace gin with Whiskey
Juan Collins | Replace gin with Tequila
Let's drink! What are some of your favorite cocktail recipes? I'd love to hear them!
