Barnsley Gardens Resort is one of the best kept secrets in Georgia. It has a wonderful backstory. The original manor, Woodlands was built by Godfrey Barnsley for his wife, Julia. How cute is that?! The grounds feature exceptional restaurants, beautiful golf courses, a sporting club, a spa, and excellent horseback riding and nature exploration. With just two hours away from Atlanta, my family frequents Barnsley for numerous weekend getaways. It really is a true retreat, far from a big city it feels like you are on vacation.
Fall is, in my opinion, the absolute best time to visit. While it's a a little late in the season, the weather has been gorgeous this past week - highs in the high 60's? Yes, please. My sister and I play golf here often and decide to "make a night of it" every few weeks. After golf we head to Woodlands Grill for appetizers and post-round Arnold Palmers. I highly recommend the Woodlands Grill. It has a hunting lodge ambiance with fireplaces and a large black porch overlooking the course. What I love most is the seasonal menus. They really take advantage of fresh and local vegetables. My sister ordered the Hummus & Pimento Cheese Spread, while I ordered the Red Pepper Confit and Goat Cheese Bruschetta.
Not wanting to go back to campus and study, we end out night with lawn games and s'mores. There's fire pits surrounded by adirondacks lining the grounds. They have complimentary s'mores packages with marshmallows, Ghirardelli chocolate, graham crackers, and wooden sticks. It was such a great time to eat good food and enjoy the weather. At just an hour-ish away from Atlanta, it would be a very easy day trip to the spa/dinner/etc.
