Back to the Basics

One thing I absolutely love is a comfortable outfit. While I will sacrifice comfort for style, there is a way to be both comfortable and put-together. Nobody does that better than my older sister, Casey. It was her 23rd birthday recently. So hard to believe she is already 23, especially since she is shorter than me! We are two years apart, and growing up, the age difference seemed huge. Now that we are older, it seems like it doesn't exist. I love that as we get older, my sisters and I get closer. This outfit is so her, and I couldn't love it more.

Now days, I think everyone gets too caught up in trends (especially bloggers!!) Think tassles, off-the-shoulder, wedges, and ripped jeans. And yes, all of those things are adorable and have a place, but there is something so classic about going back to the basics. Pearls, flats, dark jeans, neutral colors, and aviators.

A nice cream sweater can easily be dressed up or dressed down. This one is light and airy, but layers easily for colder weather. Like any sweater, I would suggest sizing up for a looser fit. Dark skinny jeans and flats are also basics. Every girl needs a nude, black, and navy pair. I am usually not a brand snob, but when it comes to shoes, I am all about quality. J.Crew and Talbots usually have a wide array of flats in every color.

And of course, pearl earrings, aviators, and a watch are essentials. Accessories are something that I will invest in and splurge on because I will wear them every day. Real or not, I belive every lady should own a pearl necklace and earrings. These Brooks Brothers pearl earrings and Ray-Ban aviators are my favorites. The Gucci watch was my grandmothers. I have linked a similar one, though.

My biggest tip for anyone trying to incorporate a trend into your everyday style, try to pick one piece and dress around it. Like Coco Chanel said, "Before leaving the house, a lady should look in the mirror and take one accessory off."

Happy birthday, sis!
