A day in the (Internship) Life

Since starting my internship in January, my schedule is more different than its ever been. It's a full-time, semester-long internship. Whew. Talk about a change from the college life.

Even while I was at school, I had a lot of flexibility but still a lot of structure. I never knew just how much free time I had to myself until it was gone. The biggest difference? Going from random free-time in between classes to only having free time starting at 5:00pm. I really have to plan to maximize the time that I have.

6:30am | I am up and getting ready for the day. First thing I do... Make my bed. (I can't focus if the bed isn't made. And there is nothing worse, in my opinion, than coming home to a messy room!!!)  I try to do everything the night before so I can sleep in (blow-dry my hair, pick out my outfit, etc.). If I can sleep until 7... I'm sleeping until 7.

7:15am | Fix my coffee, grab a banana, and head out the door. A heavy breakfast really isn't my thing, so thankfully this saves me some time!

7:45am | My internship is about a 20 minute drive, but I like to get there early to finish any last minute personal things.

8:00 - 5:00pm | work work work work work work ft. Rihanna

5:00 - 6:00pm | Traffic (ew), but it gives me a chance to clear my head and listen to music. Maybe I'll start listening to podcasts or something. I hate to waste that hour just sitting in traffic!

6:00 - 7:00pm | Gym time! I go to the gym right after I get home from work. If I don't, I won't get up from the couch all night! haha I usually run do a warm-up run for 10 minutes, elliptical for 20 minutes, do free weights, abs, and squats for 20 minutes, then a cool-down jog for 10 minutes!

7:00 - 8:30pm | Make dinner and watch Netflix. I'm really into 90210. It's like a west coast Gossip Girl.. so addicting!! Typical dinner: Spaghetti squash with pasta sauce, grilled jalapeño sausage, and sautéed zucchini.

8:30 - 10:00pm | Blog, study for LSAT, check e-mails, and do basically anything productive that needs to get done! // Late night snack: either a few Cuties, a honeycrisp apple, or some popcorn. Oddly enough, I am usually my most creative and productive at night.

10:00 - 11:00pm | Get ready for the next day (Shower, pick out outfit, pack lunch for next day, etc.)

11:00 - 11:30pm | Catch up on social media, maybe watch an episode or two, and go to sleep! I can't lie here, I've been watching way more television than I normally do. I haven't been reading as much as I hoped, but these shows have totally sucked me in!!

Side Note: It seems like college students are always hounded about internships, internships, INTERNSHIPS!!! And it kind of had me freaked out that if I didn't have one, my career would be over before it began. Which totally isn't true. It really just depends on what your major is and what you plan to do, but I'll talk more about this and my experience as a whole in a later post!

Overall, this is a pretty consistent outline of my schedule. Pretty boring, but I have definitely been getting a taste of the "real world".  Sometimes I go out to dinner or have social events to attend, but with working 9 hours a day, I feel like I need to have a plan when I get home to maximize my free time (or else I just end up watching Netflix all night). When it warms up, "gym time" will definitely become "sitting by the pool time". Often though, I will go to a coffee shop or out shopping during the evenings, just to get out of my apartment and explore the city a little.

And as much as I love a busy schedule (and my internship!!), nothing beats a cozy night in with coffee and popcorn after a long day on the job! Am I right?
