Kiawah Island 5k

I love working out, but I easily fall out of my routine really fast. Things just get in the way. Especially since I started an internship which requires me to work 8-5. I need to actually schedule a workout instead of doing it out of convenience. I'm not going to go on some crazy "new year, new me" fitness craze. I have set a realistic goal of running two-three times a week. Something to just keep me active.

It also helps me to not go insane. I sit all day, so working out is a perfect way to let off steam and stretch a bit.

My workout routine is simple - with the bulk of it being cardio. I feel that cardio is the one workout that is all-encompassing because it works out every muscle group.

One of my favorite things of 2016, and something that was on my 101 in 1001 days list was to run a 5k completely. Not a big feat for the normal person, but long-distance running just isn't my thing either. If I have to run, running the Annual Kiawah Island Thanksgiving Turkey Trot is not a bad way to do it. It was my second time running it, but the first time I ran/walked. I can't believe I ran the whole way. It (almost) makes me want to run another 5k, or dare I say a 10k. But for now, I think I'll stick to the treadmill at the gym three-ish times a week!

I'm not a huge 'athleisure' fan, even though I have been guilty of running errands in workout clothes. I think it's a trend that is here to stay, though. I will do a full post on my go-to workout gear later, but for now I will just highlight some of my favorites! I like to keep my workout clothes pretty neutral, color-wise --- blacks, greys, and whites. One of the things I hated the most about running was my earbuds never staying in. I received these PowerBeats wireless earbuds for Christmas this past year, and I absolutely love them. They make working out so much easier.

What are some of your new year workout 'goals'? I've been hearing a lot of good things about the Kayla Fitness workout, maybe I'll start adding that to my cardio workout. Also, I'm slowly adding to my athleisure wardrobe. Any specific leggings I should try? Favorite pullover or cute top? I'd love to check them out!
