Even though Fall isn't officially until Thursday, I am so excited for sweater-weather (It sure doesn't feel like it yet here in Georgia). I thought I would share some basics every woman should stock up on for the season. A big part of the reason I love fall is the clothes, the warm neutral hues, the plaid, the cashmere, the flannel... and the pumpkin flavored everything. YUM!
Each fall I stock up on a lot of winter clothes, because it is worth it to invest in good quality basics that will never go out of style.
Cable Knit Sweater: Ah, the sweater. An epitome of fall weather. The one above is from Talbots and I love love it. I honestly should have gotten one in every color, because I can't seem to find one that fits as perfectly as that one does. They are perfect with skirts, pants, and shorts and can be worn over your shoulders, under a vest/jacket, or over the top of something with a collar such as a polo or oxford.
Field Jacket: This J.Crew jacket is my most "worn" piece. Season after season it makes every outfit appear effortlessly classic, and sophisticated. It's not too heavy and perfect for brisk fall days when only a little extra warmth is needed.
Headband: It's no secret that I love headbands. I often get emails about where I find my headbands because I have quite the extensive collection. It all started when I was growing out my side-bangs and needed something to keep them out of my eyes, and I fell in love. Personally, I like the thinner headbands, but it really depends on what look you are going for. It's important to have solid colors that can be paired with anything, but I do occasionally have bold ones that are "statement" headbands. (such as the plaid on above which I got from Nordstrom last year)
Collared Shirt: I seriously have every color, also several striped and gingham. Even though sleeveless shirts are "summery", they are perfect for layering under a jacket or under a sweater. For the fall, my go-to colors are camel, navy, and dark red. Since most of my outerwear is navy, I opt for more colorful layering pieces. My favorites are ones with ruffled collars which give it a more feminine look. You can really dress them up or down.

Tartan: Plaid is year-around for me, but especially in the fall and winter months. I really love when plaid is used in home decor (ex: my dorm room this year!) I know Ralph Lauren has a lot of plaid things which is partly why I love anything RL. My favorite tartan items: My Brooks Brothers plaid pajamas (similar below) and my old J.Crew tassel loafers shown here. Whether its a scarf, jacket, or pajamas, I would definitely recommend investing in some tartan.
