What a perfect start to the summer. Strawberries are currently in season, but only for a short time. A few friends and I woke up early to head to the strawberry field and picked the juiciest strawberries we could find. It was an insanely pretty day. The four of us could not resist rolling down our windows to take in the fresh air as we drove to the orchard. We picnicked after and made homemade strawberry shortcakes. It gets better... there was not a cloud in the sky. What a day.
Once you taste fruit off the vine, store bought fruit just doesn't measure up. I've been spoiled with these strawberries. Whether it be apples in the fall or blackberries in the summer, I plan on making this a seasonal tradition. The cherry on top (or should I say strawberry on top) is that the farm's market offered corresponding treats. The strawberry ice cream was hands down the best ice cream I have ever tasted.
5-7 strawberries, sliced
Small pound cake, sliced
Start with a slice of pound cake and put strawberries on top of cake. Then, top with whipped cream. Repeat this twice, and enjoy!
