I LIVE on routine. All throughout high school I had the everyday routine; it was comfortable and familiar to me. I guess now that I'm out of high school, my perspective has changed. I need to grasp the fact that my daily rituals will be tossed out of the window and replaced with new ones. Hence why I need to get into the habit sooner rather than later.
Not only will it make me feel more productive, but also less stressed! Come on it's summer, WHY do I feel stressed? I guess it's just because I have less than 2 months to get my crap together for college in the fall. Yep. That's probably it. Dorm decor, class schedule, golf, potential major, job(s)... the list goes on and on and on.
The first thing you should do in the morning, no matter what, is open the window and make the bed. I don't know why, but it brightens the room and having a made bed really makes me seem like I have my life together. It's the weirdest thing, but trust me, try it. My whole room can be so clean, but if the bed is unmade, the whole room looks cluttered, aka: my life is cluttered.
Start off with something fun to do, like exercising, yoga, or if you have a dog, taking him/her for a walk. I used to be rushing to get ready for school, but now I can take the time to actually enjoy cool summer mornings. It gets you up and moving and feeling energized and refreshed. Plus, breakfast tastes better when you know you worked for it.
Breakfast is, however, the most important meal of the day, and I have to say I am the worlds worst at eating it. Breakfast food just doesn't appeal to me at 7 or 8 in the morning. I usually grab a banana or granola bar and that's it. But if I were to start my day off with a little exercising, I may be in a healthier mood and opt out of the french toast for something healthier.
Do something quiet or enjoyable while you drink your coffee and eat breakfast, whether it be read a few chapters of a book, the newspaper, or write a to-do list. Just make sure to avoid a screen. This includes laptop, phone, TV, etc.
One of the best parts of a stress-free morning is that it sets the tone for the rest of the day. If you're happy and relaxed by 9 am, chances are you will stay in that mood throughout the day
Mornings can be a blessing or a curse and are what you make of them! How do you plan on making the most of a summer morning?
